Background

I was born in Flint, Michigan, in January 1963. Vowing not to face a Michigan winter ever again, I promptly left for warmer climes. I grew up in Kansas City with two older brothers, attended college at the University of Missouri and eventually moved to Wyoming which turned out to be cold and very windy.

Dedicated to a career in psychology, I failed to marry or settle down (or grow up). Following a life changing injury in 2002 I retired from psychology and moved back to Missouri. I am in the process of making a mid-life career change and attending computer/web design classes online at Baker University.

Other Hobbies

I also write poetry. I'm currently in the process of revising my poetry pages. I recently changed webhosts and have been re-doing almost everything. I have/had a recipe site as well that is in the shop for a major overhaul.

me

I wish that I were someone else
beautiful and elegant
and totally unlike me.
who would one day
just up and fly away
to Belize or Peru
or dance in the surf
of the Mediterranean.
who would dine in style
in New York City
and stop to listen
to the piano player
at the Waldorf Astoria.
I wish that I could be
irresponsible
and spontaneous
and jet off to London
just to see the sights
and be totally unlike me.
and I wish that there
was someone waiting
who loved me, just for me
and not the me I'd like to be.

Interests

I really enjoy computers, especially web design, and most of my hobbies revolve around the computer at this time including digital photography and graphic design. With every project, I learn a little more and, hopefully, get a little better. It seems that everything I learn leads me to more things I need to learn.

I also enjoy reading, music and gaming. I've had a book in my hand practically since I learned to walk. I have fairly eclectic taste in both books and music and I very much enjoy recommendations from friends that help me to find new authors and music.

Anastasia

I live with a cat named Anastasia, or Stasia for short, who was diagnosed by her old vet with "Bizarre Cat Syndrome." I've always thought he made it up but it is surprisingly apt. She is featured nearly weekly in Weekend Cat Blogging.

Examples of Web Projects

WYfriend's World

In the interest of full disclosure, my very first site was on geocities and I think I committed every major design flaw possible. I've done some minor clean up on the site such as removing the overly busy background and the cursor tail - but it's still pretty bad.

The Emptys

One of the first projects I coded myself was a lyrics site for a band I enjoy. Mitch was really sweet to let me experiment on the band but I deny making those color choices - they are based on the colors of The Emptys' old webpage.

Zaz's Smilie Collection

The smilie site was a great site for experimenting with table layouts. It has been through a lot of changes over the years.

Zaz's Favorite Quotations

Like the smilie site, the quote site has been an ongoing project that changes when I learn new skills. It's currently set in frames.

A Curve in the Road

This site was my project for WEB111A. CSS really came together for me in that class. I had done a lot of forum design but that is mostly modifying someone else's CSS. Even though I'm relatively proud of this project, I see a lot of places where it can be better. There is still so much to learn!

The Completely Innocuous Personal Website

I have created this page to have something I can use and modify for the homepage requirement of Baker's Online Classes. It's a little bit silly but it's hard to know what to include in these things.
